To create value, Trimble must invest in a holistic field-to-cloud strategy now.
Strategy means making choices - choosing what to support and what to cull to advance our position. It means getting clear on topics like:
- What qualifies a “Trimble device”?
- How will Trimble devices connect to the cloud? In how many ways?
- How will field data be transformed into actionable information?
- How will we maintain context?
- Who’s using a device?
- Where are they using it?
- What kinds of data are they generating?
- What are they trying to do?
- How will we make our field-to-cloud strategy practical for teams and customers?
Successful execution of our field-to-cloud strategy requires coordination. Ownership is inherently shared.
- Field Systems is Trimble’s differentiator. Trimble must continue to rationalize device development, reducing the complexity and cost of the current Trimble device landscape.
- Platform must provide robust pipelines to streamline data delivery to Trimble products and experiences.
- Product teams must integrate with Platform to ensure customers get the field data they need in the shape they need it.
- Teams must ensure all ends meet. We must have reliable, secure, and consistent flow from field to cloud, regardless of the device, customer, or use case.
Trimble must invest in an enterprise device strategy now because not doing so threatens our core business. By not making coordinated choices - not having a coherent strategy - our field-to-cloud ecosystem has no greater cohesion than the overall market.
