Create an event topic

The following steps allow you to create a new event topic:

  1. Create a spec.

    • Open the specification onboarding doc{:target=“_blank”} (also found on the Schema page) and create your custom schema based on example.
    • Understand the spec format and requirements, then adapt one of the provided examples to define your own topic.
  2. Lint the spec.

    • Use our custom Linting API by invoking the endpoint for version “Spec-Validator-1.0” to ensure that your spec conforms to our requirements.
    • We will allow you to create your event topic only if the spec passes the linting rules.
    • Refer to the Schema Linting page for more details.
  3. Create or use an existing Cloud Console application to authorize on the event topic.
Refer to the Connecting to the Events Service page for details.

  4. Set up the event topic.

    • Request to create a new event topic:

      • Click HERE{:target=“_blank”} to fill out a form that auto-generates a ticket and assigns it to the Event Service dev team.

      • The form will require the below information:

        • Your desired display name for the event topic
        • Version of the event
        • A brief description of the event (1-3 sentences)
        • Attach/link your specification file
        • Specify which protocol you would like to publish from (or specify the Confluent Kafka Connector).
        • Specify the ID and name of the Cloud Console application you would like to authorize to publish to this topic
        • The name of your product/team.
        • The group email of your team (if one exists).
      • With this information, the events team will set up your topic with a dev endpoint. Email us back when you’re ready for a qa, stage or prod endpoint.

      • You can also contact the events team using the group email address: DispatchRider-ug@trimble.com

      • Please note that the dev team is based out of Chennai time zone and typically fulfills requests within 24 hrs.
