Overview of Transactional Email Service

Transactional Email Service is a microservice that provides a common platform to send emails and search for sent emails. These emails are going to end-users using pre-set templates. All emails sent through this service must be something a user can act on (transactional).

  • We monitor the integration, so you don’t have to:

    • We monitor domain and IP reputability ensuring the highest possible delivery rates, and take corrective action where necessary (Mailgun/Twilio/SES don’t do this out of the box).

    • We expose all metrics and individual delivery events.

  • We coordinate with Trimble Branding, so you don’t have to:

    • We work with Trimble Branding to ensure all email templates conform to the One Trimble brand.

Defining transactional

The following emails qualify as transactional as being something users can act on:

  • You need to confirm a user’s action performed in the application, such as change of password, email confirmation, or change of system status

  • You need the system to automatically generate a message based on the user’s actions or system status change.

  • You need to communicate

  • Account changes

  • Account creation and activation

  • E-commerce transaction receipt

  • Legal notifications

  • Maintenance notifications

  • New user account

  • Password reminders, resets and two-factor authentication

  • Renewal notification

  • Security and account alerts

  • System/ product outage

The following emails are considered to be NOT transactional:

  • Marketing or promotional message

  • Release notes, tips and tricks, or onboarding information

  • Abandoned cart emails

  • Newsletter

  • Education/ training email series

  • Upsell or cross-sell emails

  • Product announcements or promotions

  • Webinar, tradeshow, or event invitations and registration confirmations

  • Welcome or onboarding emails

  • Trial expiration

Before you start

Each email sent can affect the overall deliverability of our emails. To maintain our domain’s reputation, please make sure every email sent meets the following criteria:

  • The recipient email address is valid, even in testing

  • Emails are transactional

  • Email follows our best practices guidelines

Email templates

Email templates are required in order to send an email. Templates are HTML and text files that contain the email format and content wording for the body of the email. Templates can include variables such as a user’s first name or an account activation link.
