Managing Email Templates with Template Manager
Overview
This guide explains how to create, manage, and test email templates in Template Manager for the Transactional Email Service. It also covers standard templates and custom HTML template submission.
Prerequisites
- Must be part of a Cloud Console team with a developer or admin role.
- The application must be subscribed to use the Transactional Email Service.
Template Types
- Standard templates: Templates that follow the standard structure.
- Custom templates: Templates created for specific requirements.
Standard Templates
Standard templates follow a fixed structure and are suitable for common use cases. They are easier to implement, maintain, and update.
A standard template includes:
- Header
- Preheader
- Subheader
- Body
- Template variables
Note: Header, Preheader, and Subheader are optional sections. The template can include body content, template variables, or both, based on the email requirement.
The header is the main title of the email. The preheader is a short summary shown in the inbox. The subheader provides supporting information. The body contains the main message. Template variables are placeholders that can be dynamically replaced with actual values when the email is sent.
Standard templates are recommended because they are easier to maintain and help keep email content consistent. Use them when the email fits the standard structure and does not require a special layout.
Refer to the below image for how standard templates are structured in Template Manager:

Custom Templates
Custom templates provide more flexibility for layout or content needs that do not fit the standard template structure.
Custom templates require additional approval and more effort to create and maintain. Use them only when the standard template structure does not meet the requirement. Custom templates also support template variables, but the layout and formatting are entirely up to the creator. Custom templates must be submitted as HTML files and go through an approval process before they can be used.
