Multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an added layer of security used to verify an end user’s Identity when they sign in to an application. This optional configuration is available in Trimble Identity user interface. Users can turn MFA on or off at any time unless they are part of a federated identity.
For a list of currently supported second factors, please see MFA Types.
What does that mean?
Section titled “What does that mean?”Users can choose to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for their Trimble Identity account. Currently, Trimble customers are not able to set whether their users must enable MFA unless they have set up a federation with a 3rd-party enterprise identity provider, such as Azure AD, Okta, Google ID, etc. More information on the federation process can be found on the Identity Federation with Trimble page.
With MFA enabled, anyone who signs in will be prompted to provide a user name and password (first factor) and then prompted to provide the verification code (second factor). This indicates that they both know their sign-in credentials and are in possession of the device they registered while enabling MFA.
